How to Become a Member

Requirements

Membership Requirements

Current application requirements for membership categories with specified documentation criteria.

Student

  • Currently undergoing training in a higher institution in Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology, Hydrogeology, or an allied discipline.
  • Recommendation to the Association by a registered member.
  • Approval by simple majority of National Council members present and voting.

Graduate

  • Basic degree or equivalent in Geology, any Natural Science, or Engineering.
  • Training in Engineering Geology or an allied discipline, supervised geotechnical/environmental practice, or relevant postgraduate engineering geophysics experience.
  • Recommendation by a Corporate member.
  • Approval by simple majority of the National Council.

Affiliate

  • For people who do not possess the requisite educational requirements in Geology.
  • Must have verifiable experience in geotechnical practice.
  • Admission requires two-third majority votes of National Council members present and voting.

Corporate

  • Must have satisfied the requirements for Graduate Membership.
  • Minimum of three (3) years active involvement in geotechnical, engineering geologic, and/or environmental practice.
  • Election requires two-third majority vote of National Council members present and voting.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Engineering Geology or Environmental Geology is recognised.

Fellow

  • Must have been a full member for a minimum of ten (10) years.
  • Recommendation by the committee on Fellowship Award.
  • Election into Fellowship requires two-third majority of National Council members present and voting.

Institutional

  • Open to corporate organisations involved in geotechnical practice.
  • Open to higher institutions offering courses in Engineering Geology, Environmental Geology, or allied disciplines.
